What you’ll need to drive in Saint Lucia
All drivers need a valid driver’s licence from their country of residence.
- A visitor’s driving permit, which Lux can issue to customers who require one
- Contact information for your stay in Saint Lucia
- A completed and signed rental contract or agreement
- Optional Extra Protection Waiver or Collision Damage Waiver
Your licence
Drivers must be 25 years of age or older and must have held a valid driver’s licence for more than three years, issued in the renter’s country of residence.
Local driver permit
A local permit is mandatory for all non-OECS residents. Each permit costs US$21 and is valid for three months. If you are staying for more than three months in Saint Lucia, the permit can be renewed.
Insurance
All Lux vehicles are insured and include passenger and third-party accident liability coverage.
Extra Protection Waiver or Collision Damage Waiver
The optional Extra Protection Waiver (EPW) or Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is available and recommended at US$15 per day.
EPW is not insurance. It is a waiver that reduces the renter’s stated liability from US$2,000 to US$500 when the vehicle is operated according to the rental agreement.
If EPW is not selected, the customer or hirer is liable for all costs associated with vehicle damage caused by negligence, accident, theft, fire or water, regardless of who is at fault.
Payment
Lux accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club or cash. Advance payment is required.
Cancellations
Cancellations made after the vehicle has been collected incur a charge of 50% of the remaining rental balance.
Late charges
Late returns incur a US$10 charge after the first hour. A full day is charged when the vehicle is returned two or more hours late.
Additional drivers
Additional drivers can be added free of charge.
Other charges
Additional charges may apply to customer-requested add-ons selected during reservation.
A minimum US$50 cleaning fee applies when a returned vehicle requires extensive cleaning because of smoking, liquid stains or other residue.
Fuel and baby seats are charged separately when applicable.
